If you’ve tried to purchase a good domain name in the last year or two, you know just how bloody hard it has become. If in the course of your searching, you are surprised to find that a good name is available, you should probably buy it. Chances are, you’ll waste another two hours looking at hundreds more domain names and then go back to the one that made you say, “Real? Wow! That’s not too bad.”
But the thing that I funny – and by funny in this case I mean infuriatingly frustrating - is that there’s usually nothing good at the other end of what you want. For instance, on this blog, I wanted a good domain name related to humor. How do you shorten humor when using a keyboard? With a “ha” of course.
So, let’s start with ha.com. No surprise this is taken, right? Every two-letter combination was taken long before Internet Explorer perverted the net.
And of course, without a time machine going back to 1995, there’s no chance of haha.com. But at least this is a good solid humor site. I wasn’t surprised either to find hahaha.com, or hahahaha.com taken. But then it starts getting ridiculous!
hahahahahahahahahahahaha.com
hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.com
hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.com -(that’s 14 ha’s ) All taken!
Now, I’ve seen some funny things in my life. Many worthy of 8 or 9 ha’s, a small handful worthy of 10 ha’s, and possibly, just maybe, a few things that could command 11 or 12 ha’s. But I don’t think there’s anything that could be posted online that would command 14 ha’s. I’m not saying the world hasn’t seen it, but capturing a 14 ha moment? Yet to be done.
Besides, how do you share that address? Do you tell someone to type 14 ha’s in a row dot com? But even 14hasinarow.com is a shorter URL!
Perhaps there’s some brilliance behind that domain purchase? Maybe they’re betting on it being worthy someday. I doubt we’re close to a 14 ha moment online anytime soon. But I’ve also learned never to bet against the internet.
If you hurry, you can still grab hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.com

Hahahaha… (and by only 4 “ha’s” this doesn’t take away from your astute analysis!) It is very difficult to find a good, short domain name – but I had no idea how ridiculous it has become. Thanks for the laughs!

Ok, so I had plenty of haha’s when reading your post, but that’s me. I haha any chance I can get, and 14 haha’s issuing from me is no rare thing, but I loved your post. You are hilarious, and I feel blessed tohave a brother that makes me laugh so much!
